Celebrating our longest-serving volunteers and our 40th Anniversary at Windsor Castle
In London and the South East to celebrate Volunteer’s Week and the Alzheimer’s Society 40th Anniversary (like many leading charities we were started by volunteers) we invited our longest-serving volunteers in the region to a celebration event at Windsor Castle! The event was also to raise awareness of our need to grow our volunteering programme and volunteering’s critical role in extending our reach and delivering our new Dementia Connect model. Windsor Castle offered us a free venue in their Learning Centre for our event and free complimentary tickets to tour Windsor Castle afterwards. We held the celebration event in the Learning Centre in the morning. Our main guest speaker was inspirational; Morella Kayman is one of our founder volunteers and spoke movingly of her lonely journey over 40 years ago as she tried to get a diagnosis for her husband who was only in his 40’s at the time. So many of the volunteers who attended were keen to tell us how much they had enjoyed the event and many said it had inspired them to do more in their volunteer roles to support the work of the Society. Big thank you, Windsor Castle.
