ECHO are celebrating ahead of Volunteer’s Week (1-7 June) at a fun-filled family friendly day to thank our volunteers for all their hard work and commitment to ECHO. Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect affecting just under 1 in every 100 babies born in the UK. ECHO supports children and young people with heart conditions and their families, who’ve been treated by Evelina London Children’s Hospital networks. ECHO supports families at every stage of their heart journey. Many ECHO volunteers are heart parents themselves, looking to give back to a charity which helped them during times of need. ECHO volunteers support families in many ways, such as offering parent-to-parent support to other heart families; helping to organise community events; offering admin and office support and make visits to heart families on the ward. ECHO helps members from across the UK and does so within Evelina London, local general hospitals and the community. Families are supported at every stage of their heart child’s journey through childhood, teenage years and during the transition to adult services. The charity offers a number of practical services aimed at supporting these families, often when there is little other help available.
