Service Above Self

Eagle Lodge / Oregano, 2 Hilton Road, Bishopbriggs. Glasgow G64 2PN
Open to the public

A weekly meeting of like-minded volunteers, working together to 'make a difference' in the community, both locally & internationally. Organising fundraising events; e.g. 'a cabaret night'; or social events e.g a 'curry night' or a 'BBQ'; or arranging various administration activities that allow a small group to make a difference. This session we managed to reach out to some of the local schools and the young folk got involved in some Rotary competitions - 'youth speaks' / 'young musician' to name two. Next session we would like to arrange a series of 'OPEN NIGHTS' and invite various sectors of the community to hear about how they could get involved using their particular skills in line with the '6 Areas of Focus' of Rotary Basic Education - schools; colleges; universities - teachers; trainers; supervisors; lecturers; etc Water & Sanitation - engineers; plumbers; health visitors; etc Maternal & Child health - nurses; midwives; district nurses; nursery staff; mother & toddler groups; Paramedics; etc.. Disease Treatment & Prevention - Doctors; Dentists; Opticians; Chiropractors; Chiropodists; Podiatrists; Engineers; etc.. Peace & Conflict Resolution & Prevention - Police; Fire Service; Religious Leaders; Community Leaders; Politicians; Parents; Teachers; etc.. Economic & Community Development - Employers from all sectors - retail; wholesale; manufacturing; hospitality; musicians; actors; writers; designers; etc.. We need all strata and sector of society to get involved as each skill they bring is very valuable.
