Volunteer Recruitment day

Churnet Valley Railway

ALL ABOARD! Have you ever wondered what it is like to volunteer on a heritage railway? Well today is the day you find out. Step behind the smoke and steam to find out how the volunteers help to make our railway run. With exhibitions at each station, find out how you can get involved and what amazing skills you can gain. A little shy and in need of a confidence boost? Then why not talk to the station staff; they will be more than happy to show you around and how you can be the face of the railway. Just leaving high school and need that added boost to your CV? Then why not join Motive Power Department. In the heavy engineering environment you will learn all sorts of skills such as time management, working with machinery and how to fire a steam engine. If a quieter day is what you are looking for then why not join Pam and the team in the Signal Souvenirs? The busy but calm atmosphere is perfect for the volunteer looking to engage with both the customers and other volunteers. At Cheddleton and Consall Station the Signal Box will be open for viewing, allowing you to see all the current work taking place. The Cheddleton Engine Shed and Carriage Shed will also be open to public visit, so take the time to view the current projects we are working on and what progress we are making. Throughout the railway there will be staff on hand to answer any question you may have. We will have points at every station where you can sign up to volunteer, adding your skills to our enthusiastic team.
