Anne's Story
Greater Shankill Senior Citizens Forum and G6
I have volunteered for over 40 years and I love it. I started volunteering at youth clubs and within my community and now volunteer with the senior citizens group getting involved with others right across the City.
I volunteered initially with a community group running a youth club, volunteering in a playgroup and within the education system. I became the chairperson of the local PTA while working in the school.
As secretary of the community group I helped with the Belfast City Council summer scheme and following that I volunteered at a Saturday night disco for the local kids to keep them safe.
I still volunteer at a children’s bible club in my church.
I got involved because I saw a need mostly at the time with children and young people. The situation was difficult because of the Troubles and our community association tired to keep the kids, including my own, of the streets.
I still volunteer because I love the company, there is still so much need and I can see the difference that we can continue to make.
